witchy cottagecore edition

I’m happy to share that my next short story, “The Woods Witch,” will be published next month!

It will be available through Persephone Literary, an online magazine dedicated to showcasing the light & dark of the human experience.

Let’s dive in!!!

The Story

Sage Quill is a young reclusive girl, fated to live her days alone in a remote forest on the outskirts of town. Villagers whisper about the haunted, vengeful witch that lures men into her cottage only to devour them whole. But is she truly the perpetrator of these ancestral crimes, or merely a victim?

Sage’s story is one of survival, and how generational trauma has fed into her fear of Outsiders — the men she is fated to kill — until the day a boy steps into her clearing without expecting anything in return.

The Magazine

“The Woods Witch” found its home in Persephone Literary’s “Medusa” issue among other stories of survival, rage, transformation, reclamation of power, consent, and more. What’s more is that 10% of all profits will go toward RAINN in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. 💜

The Journey

This story was rejected by not one, not two, but three (!!!) other publications before it finally found its home. Sharing for proof that rejections aren’t always a reflection of your writing or your story.

I refused to give up on this one, so naturally I’m very excited to be able to share it with you all soon.

Teasers!

A (Very Short) Snippet ✂️

“A twinge of guilt struck her for how easily he trusted her. But why wouldn’t he? Boys weren’t raised to be afraid of young, innocent girls, or of wandering dark woods at night.”

A Moodboard 🎨

As always, here’s a little moodboard that my Instagram followers may recall seeing awhile back:
