Hello! It’s time for a monthly update this rainy Monday afternoon (at least here in my little town on the east coast.)
If you follow me on Instagram too, you’ll notice I’ve been absent. July was a whirlwind: we made the hard decision to put down our 13-year-old dog, Saph, due to her severe arthritis and lack of response to pain meds; we celebrated my son’s 2nd birthday; we took a week-long trip to sunny CA; and other personal craziness that life, as we know, likes to throw our way.
I’ve been completely exhausted and am avoiding my laptop like the plague. (So serious, I’m writing this from my phone.) The thought of reading or writing makes me feel physically ill 🤣. I think it’s because I’ve set some big goals for myself and I feel like I’m falling behind, so I’m trying to avoid thinking about altogether. I had to back out of some commitments recently, too, including beta reading a fun horror novella, because life has been busy enough that I need to take a breather before I dive back into the creative realm.
Ranting aside, I am still very much thinking and brainstorming and writing inside my head. And today, I am very excited to share one of my short stories, “The Heart of the Garden.” This is being offered exclusively to my paying subscribers as a special lil treat for supporting me and my writing! I’d categorize this story as dark fantasy/speculative fiction. It has some supernatural elements but is not quite horror.
And to give you an idea of what I’m planning for my next issue, it’s going to involve a deleted scene from my WIP. 👀
